A week after Miley Cyrus and her Hannah Montana movie earned record-breaking revenue, Zac Efron is proving that we really are living in a tween world.

The handsome actor has found success with his first post-High School Musical role, as 17 Again finished first at the box office.

The film – which also stars Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann – raked in $24.1, easily knocking off State of Play (featuring Hollywood heavyweights such as Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck), which came in second with $14.1 million.

But the two sides of Zanessa never look better than when spotted together, which took place earlier this week at the Hollywood premiere for 17 Again. It’s Efron first, post-High School Musical starring role.

Not that Zac even had time for Vanessa, unfortunately. He had to satisfy the contingent of crazed fans that showed up on the red carpet. He appears to be making one girl’s life by signing an autograph for her here…

Zac Efron will no longer be cutting footloose.

Two years after he was in talks to reprise the role of Kevin Bacon from the 1984 classic, the actor has dropped out of the film.

“Footloose is a project we’ve longed to see re-booted for a new generation. While Zac is no longer attached, we remain excited and committed to the collective brain trust of [director] Kenny Ortega, [producers] Neil Meron and Craig Zaden, who will reinvigorate the franchise,” said a Paramount Pictures representative.

Reportedly, Efron abandoned the movie because he’s trying to take on more varied roles.

The High School Musical star is currently promoting the comedy 17 Again, which opens in theaters this April. He’ll also star in the drama Me and Orson Welles, alongside Claire Danes.

As any loyal High School Musical fan knows, Zac Efron is starring in a movie called 17 Again this summer. He’s pictured below in a scene from it, dancing with costar Leslie Mann.

He recently discussed the appeal of the plot, which centers on a man transported back to his 17-year old body:

“The idea of going back to high school as an adult is incredible…until you actually get there! It’s like this crazy twilight zone of adolescent insecurities and people trying to grow up and figure out what they want to do with their lives. It’s crazy in the movie,” Zac said.

“Nothing comes out right when you’re a teenager… it really is like a frighteningly new place!”
