Last week, to the surprise of no one, Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhart broke up.

The pair had recently hinted at an engagement, but that’s nothing new for Paris.

As we take readers back through the sordid love life of Hilton, it’s apparent that she can be serious about getting the most attention she can from a relationship one moment… and single the next.

2004:

After hooking up in December 2003, Hilton and Nick Carter end their romance. Years later, Carter said he cheated on Hilton with Ashlee Simpson.

Rick Salomon introduces Hilton to the world with 1 Night in Paris. In an incredible coincidence, the sex tape is released just a few weeks prior to Hilton’s reality TV debut.

2005:

After five months of dating (her first) Greek shipping heir, Paris Latsis, an engagement is announced by Hilton’s spokesperson. “They are happy and excited,” he said, just a few weeks before he announces their break-up.

2006:

Paris and another Greek shipping heir, Stavros Niarchos, break up and get back together often. As recently as November 2008, there are rumors that they’re still getting it on.

2007:

Desperate Housewives star Josh Henderson proves that he’s desperate for an STD test, as well. He and Hilton and are spotted out a few times.

Doug Reinhardt and Paris Hilton had a great run. Who would have ever seen a breakup coming after six months and hundreds of nauseating PDAs?

THG NOTE: We did. Numerous times. Ever since they started dating.

In any case, despite the persistent engagement rumors (fostered by her, for attention) Paris and her boyfriend du jour have officially called it quits.

A rep for the ho-tel heiress confirmed the breakup, for which no reason has been given as of this posting, with the following statement today:

“In response to the inquiry on whether Paris Hilton has split up with Doug Reinhardt, yes, this is true, the couple are no longer together.”

“They remain friends and ask that you please respect their privacy.”

The pair had been together for six months, which is an eternity by her standards. Reinhardt’s rep, who better start sending out resumes, had no comment.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. This saying also applies to Paris and Doug.

Let the record show that Paris Hilton and her beau of several months, Doug Reinhardt, are lovers, but not fighters. Reports of a screaming match in Reinhardt’s driveway last night are “not true at all,” Hilton tells E! Online today.

Rather, the ho-tel heiress says, someone prank called her. And it was a mean prank call. The culprit’s joke of choice? Claiming her pooch was pancaked.

“We got home from the [T-Mobile launch] party last night and someone prank-called me and said that my dog, Tinkerbell, had been ran over,” she recalls. “They told me ‘Tinkerbell is dead. We just found it on Mulholland Drive.’”

Talk about doggie drama – and this time, Rick Salomon was not involved.

Rest assured, Tinkerbell is okay. But Thursday evening got weirder still. In addition to the prank call, keys to Doug’s home were nowhere to be found.

“We couldn’t find the keys to the house,” Paris Hilton says. “While Doug was looking for the keys, I was screaming on the phone. I’m on the phone crying calling my mom. Obviously I’m going to be crying; she’s like my daughter.”

Luckily it was all a hoax: “I finally got ahold of my assistant. She went to the house and saw that all my dogs were fine,” Hilton thankfully said.

Hilton explained that Doug Reinhardt lives on a cul-de-sac, so noise echoes through the neighborhood. Presumably, that’s why neighbors called the cops.

“They came to the house and saw that everything was fine and said, ‘Sorry, Ms. Hilton,’” said Paris, who said this prank call was hardly the first.

“I don’t know who called,” she says. “It happens all the time. I’ve changed my number like 10 times in two years. Whoever made that call is sadistic.”

LAPD spokesman Richard French confirms that law enforcement officers got a call at Doug Reinhardt’s residence but found everything to be copacetic.

“Just before 1 a.m. Friday morning, a patrol unit was called to investigate a domestic-violence incident,” French says. “When police arrived on the scene, it revealed that no crime had occurred, so there was no police report.”

TMZ reports that when cops arrived, the two were in the middle of a nuclear screaming match. Paris and Doug wouldn’t open the gate, so they hopped the fence.

Paris and Doug then answered the front door, cops spoke with them and the arguing stopped. This is the third time this week police were called to one of their homes. A previous incident? Wednesday’s late-night rager that led to vandalism.

Doug Reinhardt did not exactly try to stop Brody Jenner from cheating on Jayde Nicole on last night’s episode of The Hills. But in real life, he quickly sprung into action when some jackass tried to make a move on his girlfriend Paris Hilton.

A man who reportedly tried to grope the ho-tel heiress at a Los Angeles club Monday night was soon confronted by her boyfriend of several months.

The two were dancing at H-Wood when an intoxicated male clubber approached Hilton and tried to touch her cleavage, a witness tells Us Weekly.

Perhaps he just wanted a whiff of Paris’ new fragrance? Either way, her former terrible minor league baseball player beau intervened in a hurry.

“Doug protected his lady and pushed the guy,” adds another source. “That’s when all of Doug’s boys stepped in and beat the crap out of the guy.”

Doug Reinhardt then had security kick him out of the club.

Fellow clubgoers Jessica Alba and Cash Warren – who of course were dancing alongside Hilton and Reinhardt when this went down – were shocked.

“They looked at one another and were like ‘wow,’” says an onlooker.

Hilton and Reinhardt didn’t seem bothered by the brawl. They mingled with Brody Jenner around 1:20 a.m. before calling it a night shortly after 2.

A source also dished on the happy couple’s weekend plans:

“They are very much in love … They make the perfect couple. [They] are taking the family jet and headed to Kentucky for the Derby this weekend.”

Soon, you will be able to know what only Doug Reinhardt and a few hundred other unlucky guys have ever known – what Paris Hilton smells like up close.

The HO-tel heiress is slotted to receive a prestigious perfume award next month – before rolling out her ninth (you read that right) signature fragrance.

Yup, nine different ways to smell just like her. From Heir to Fairy Dust, and Just Me to Can Can, Paris’ many fans have a veritable fragrance counter of womens’ – and mens’ – scents at their fingertips.

Her newest is called Siren. Sounds hot…

All kidding aside, peeps are definitely buying what she’s selling. Hilton’s fragrance empire rakes in a staggering $200 million in worldwide annual sales.

That was more than enough to get her a five-year deal with posh perfume retailer Parlux. So get ready to smell her a lot more between now and 2014.

Whether Doug will be her husband – as she has predicted – by then or if she will have taken up with a whole host of other dudes by then is unclear.
