A Los Angeles courtroom heard testimony yesterday on whether or not to extend the restraining orders barring her former manager and sidekick Sam Lutfi and other past hangers-on from having contacts with troubled star Britney Spears.
Attorney John Anderson took the stand and told Superior Court Commissioner Aviva K. Bobb that he was asked to represent the pop star in a battle to free her from the conservatorship controlled by her father, Jamie Spears.
“A person who purported to be Sam Lutfi told me that all of Britney Spears’ phone rights were cut off,” he said, adding that he was also told that the mother of two was under tight control by her father and virtually “in prison.”
John Anderson – who may or may not be the recipient of the leaked voicemail circulating this week – testified that he drew up papers to be retained as counsel and in turn received copies back allegedly signed by Britney Spears herself.
He said he was made aware that another court-appointed attorney had already been assigned to Spears, but was told the singer was “not confident” in the other lawyer’s abilities and wanted to hire a new representative in the courtroom.
Anderson did contact the attorneys representing Spears’ conservatorship, who dissuaded him from attempting to further pursue working for the star.
Instead, he voluntarily ended his involvement in the Spears legal debacle on January 28, after learning Jamie Spears and the conservatorship were getting restraining orders against Lutfi, former Britney beau Adnan Ghalib and Jon Eardley.
The restraining orders were obtained January 30, after Jamie Spears said in court that he had evidence the trio was trying to deliberately undermine the conservatorship, and he labeled ostensible mastermind Lutfi a “predator.”
But yesterday, Sam Lutfi’s sister, Christina, testified that she answered her brother’s phone one time when Britney was calling to ask Sam to find her a new lawyer.
Britney said “they” wouldn’t let her talk on the phone, Christina Lutfi says, admitting that she was the one who slipped her a prepaid phone on behalf of her brother and Ghalib at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills January 16.
The ladies arranged to meet in the sauna after Britney Spears was done working out with her mom, Christina Lutfi said.
And, Ms. Lutfi said, she – and not her brother Sam, as the singer’s camp has alleged repeatedly in its keep-away court petition – was the one who called Britney Spears “numerous times to make sure she was OK.”
For his part, Sam Lutfi has sued Britney Spears for unpaid management fees, and filed a separate suit against her parents Jamie and Lynne Spears for slander as well as a host of other grievances. Both suits are pending.
Last month, Bobb extended the restraining order against Adnan Ghalib to three years after the shady celebrity gossip photographer – who is facing unrelated felony charges – failed to show up at any of three previous hearings.

As his daughter’s legal conservator, Jamie Spears will do anything to protect her. But is he taking his court-appointed powers too far?
As owner and webmaster of popular Britney Spears fan site BreatheHeavy.com, Jordan Miller has spent the past five years supporting the troubled star.
It’s ironic, then, that he’s about to be shut down by the pop singer herself – or at least the powers that be who control every aspect of her existence.
While Miller asserts that the sole purpose of the website is “to support the icon of our generation, Britney Spears, and to continuously stick by her through good and bad,” Spears’ father Jamie has taken legal action over some of the content.
“I have been battling the conservatorship Britney is currently placed under for months now,” Miller wrote to fans on the site’s home page Friday.
“When I did not conform to demands Britney’s management and father, Jamie Spears, recently put upon BreatheHeavy to stay quiet, they became angry and malicious, launching, what I feel is an unjust attack, against me and my website.”
He received a legal notice from Jamie Spears’ lawyers pressuring him to dismantle the site by 3 p.m. PST Friday, or face an injunction, claiming they will pursue legal action courtesy of Jamie, who is allowed to do so as her conservator.
Chalk up another few hundred grand in legal fees.
Miller also wrote that Brad Rose, a lawyer representing Spears in this case, told him in a phone call that “you are an uber-fan who’s gone a little too far.”
Her legal team claims the site is “replete with willful, unauthorized” use of copyrighted lyrics as well as video and audio recordings and photos of Britney Spears.
“This entire site thrives because of you, the fans, who support Britney by buying tickets to her show, merchandise and music,” Miller wrote.
“Sadly, your hard-earned money that goes to supporting your favorite celebrity, is now money being used to potentially sue me, a major fan and supporter of Britney Spears, and hide fans from knowing the truth.”
He added: “This conservatorship Britney is placed under, which controls every aspect of her life, is now clenching the future of her biggest fansite,” Miller writes.
Because his site, a non-profitable endeavor, costs a minimum of $350 a month to run, he is asking viewers to donate funds until “the situation has been handled.”
If the site remains up, Spears’ legal team will pursue damages and “injunctive relief in connection with the blatant violation of her rights of publicity and privacy.”

Britney Spears is safe — for a few more months, at least.
Former puppeteer Sam Lutfi has been ordered to stay away from the pop star until the end of July — and he says he’s okay with that — as long as it’s helping Brit, of course.
“Sam and the family are communicating and cooperating trying to do what’s best for Britney,” a spokesman for the creepazoid told UsMagazine.com.
Sam kind of had no choice but to agree to keep his distance from Brit, considering there is a restraining order against him.

Britney Spears’s bad luck with cars continued this weekend, as the pop star caused a three-car bang upon a highway this weekend.
Brit was driving her 2008 white Mercedes on Saturday evening, when she rear-ended the person in front of her on the 405 connector to the 101 freeway.
According to accident report from the California Highway Patrol, “The collision occurred when the driver of the Mercedes, driving in the #3 lane, in stop and go traffic failed to observe the vehicle directly ahead of her come to a complete stop. She attempted to brake but failed to stop her vehicle prior to colliding into the rear of the Nissan.”
The Nissan then hit the car in front of them, but no damage was done. Luckily, nobody was hurt in the accident and it seems like it was pretty minor.
So, to sum up, it was nothing earth-shattering. She’s just a bad driver.

Britney and her mom, Lynne, headed out yesterday the corporate offices of clothing store Ed Hardy, to peruse some items for JL. According to a rep for the store, Brit was “in good spirits” as she shopped. Later, the pop star visited designer Christian Audigier and to check out his new spring collection. “Christian and she were laughing as she tried on Ed Hardy sunglasses and checked out the bathing suits,” says the rep.
So what will Jamie Lynn score form her big sis? Britney picked up a bunch of Christian Audigier handbags, scarves, and Crystal Rock T-shirt for Jamie Lynn, and also bought some items for her dad and brother…

Britney Spears’ turn as a ditzy love-struck receptionist on How I Met Your Mother is being touted as a breakthrough of sorts by the press: Not only did the show earn its best ratings ever last night, but Britney didn’t even melt down!
Yes, for the first time in recent memory, Britney Spears appeared before a camera and didn’t display any of the worrisome, tragic behavior that have become the status quo for her.
A source close to Britney Spears stated that the HIMYM role was carefully chosen, and if the production and people involved hadn’t agreed to be sensitive toward Spears and avoid “trigger” topics, the Spears camp would have backed out.
“The folks on set knew that they weren’t to bring up anything about her music career, for example,” the source told MSNBC.
“They weren’t supposed to start conversations about her kids. That said, they just wanted her to be treated normally, but obviously this wasn’t a normal situation.”
Spears spent two days on How I Met Your Mother and the cast said she was great to work with but don’t expect to see her regularly on TV.
“Acting won’t be a usual thing for Britney,” said the source. “She really needed this, though. For Britney it was like a taste of her old life, but it was a taste that was very carefully planned. This wasn’t about her career, it was about her health.”

When he’s not performing underwear checks before his daughter leaves the house, Daddy is taking away the keys to some of Britney Spears’ cars.
The court granted the singer’s father – her legal conservator while she is treated for bipolar disorder – the power to “sell or dispose of” an undisclosed number of her seven cars on Monday, legal documents have revealed.
Lawyers for Jamie Spears stated that the cost of maintaining the fleet of vehicles was too expensive and that the sale of “a certain number of” Britney’s cars “will save substantial expense to the conservatorship estate.”
Among Britney Spears’ many automobiles are two white Mercedes (a SL65 and a CLK350), a white Mini Cooper convertible, and a black Audi.
Also on Monday, a court spokesman clarified that the pop star’s $1,500 a week allowance “is not her only source of (personal) income.”
Further details have not been disclosed at this time.
